Is your marriage struggling because you know what needs to be done but you just can’t seem to do it or perhaps you are confused and clueless how to get the marriage you desire? There are some vital things that can make or break your marriage and I like to refer to them as marriage builders and destroyers.
There are some very simple and basic things you can do on a daily basis to build your marriage as highlighted below.
Make each other the top priority – It is easy to let the business of life become an excuse for putting everything else ahead of your relationship. If you don’t purposely make your spouse more important than your work, leisure time, kids or anything else you prefer to do, your marriage will grow cold and stale.
Make sure you greet each other with a smile and a kiss – Very often the tone for the morning or evening is set by your initial interaction. If you want to strengthen your marriage, embrace your spouse when you first see him or her. It will help ease tension and in-fact can be a huge benefit in your relationship.
Speak respectfully to and about your spouse to others – Have you ever been so mad at your spouse that you could have hurt him or her? Well, it is during this angry or resentful period when you might just lose it and blast your spouse. You have no idea how much your words can really build a wall between you. Please watch what you say to your spouse and definitely don’t share intimate details about your relationship unless you are seeking guidance from someone you trust.
Don’t forget to tell each other how much you appreciate each other – It is easy to take your spouse for granted and become accustomed to not showing appreciation. If you never take the time to show your appreciation, it might be interpreted by your spouse that you don’t care.
Refrain from making sarcastic and mean comments to each other – If you are seeking peace in your marriage and home, quit trying to beat your spouse up with sarcasm. All sarcasm does is get under your spouse’s skin and makes your marriage a tense relationship.
Have an open check and credit card marriage where no secrets exist – This one is easier said than done but it is necessary if you intend to have a great marriage. I would suggest that you start with some little openness and work your way up. Once you start to share what’s going on financially you will feel a burden lifted off you.
Work on some things together that will strengthen your marriage – There are many joint ventures you can get involved in. If you have kids, why not volunteer together as a family and build some lasting memories and an unbreakable bond between you and your spouse.
Now, there are many things that you can do that will destroy your marriage. I won’t bother to go into details on those negative things that kill marriages. I think you are well aware what those are.
For starters, make sure that you aren’t doing any of the items noted above.
