Trying to figure out how to get help in marriage when you are stressed out, angry, frustrated and ready to give up is difficult. However, please don’t assume that just because you haven’t found the answer to your marriage problems yet that you won’t. I know it’s easy to give up on your marriage but perhaps this will help you learn how to get your marriage going in the right direction.
One of the myths about getting help with your marriage is that there is only one way to fix your marriage and that is by going to marriage counseling. The truth is that couples are unique and have different perspectives on “what is a good marriage”, “what is a terrible marriage” and “what makes them happy” so finding the right marriage help can be tricky.
Listed below are some of the most common marriage problems that couples seek help about.
- Emotional or Physical Infidelity
- Emotional & Physical Neglect
- Addictive Behaviors
- Emotional or Physical Abuse
- Silent Treatments
- No Intimacy
- Poor Communication
- No Connection
- Midlife Crisis
- Unsuccessful Marriage Counseling
Perhaps you can identify with some of the more common marriage problems that couples need help in learning how to overcome. I hope you can also see why finding the right marriage advice for your particular marriage might take a little work.
One of the challenges that couples face in dealing with their marriage issues is that usually one of the spouses doesn’t think that their marriage problems are that serious. As a result they dismiss the need for working on their marriage and thus create more tension and problems between them as time goes on.
So why is it, that one spouse thinks their marriage needs help while the other person doesn’t see the need or doesn’t seem to care? I think it has a lot to do with each person’s view of what should be given and received in marriage. These views are often times shaped by what individuals see in other couples marriages and perhaps what they experienced watching their parents growing up.
How To Get Help In Marriage For Your Marriage
If you want to begin to turn your marriage around you probably need to take some time to reassess where you are and where you want to go. It’s like pulling off the side of the road during a road trip and taking a break to look at how far you have traveled and how far you need to go. In some cases depending on the experience, you might alter your route.
One of the steps in finding help for your marriage is, understanding that you most likely will never change your spouse. If you are approaching getting help for your marriage from the perspective that you need your spouse to change, you will probably fail. Your focus needs to be on getting help that can bring the two of you closer together.
“A little change in you + a little change in your spouse = A Big Change In Your Marriage”
Why are little changes important? I believe that it will give you hope and a reason to keep doing positive things, to help your marriage.
Now, I know that some marital problems require some very quick and permanent changes to stop the marriage from ending. There are some situations where abuse is present and that is never acceptable. If that is the case in your relationship then please find immediate help with some folks in your area. I would suggest you find a group in your area whose mission is to help folks find the solution to end the abuse. You should be able to seek guidance without worrying about anyone finding out.
For those non-threatening marriage problems that you need help with I would recommend that you take a few minutes and read up on one of my favorite resources that I like to recommend called “Save My Marriage Today”. You can click on the link below to find out more about it.
